Video Game Addiction
Is videogame addiction real? I don’t think any one could
deny that you can get addicted to computer games, although it is not recognised
by the government or leading authorities in the same way as alcohol addiction
are drug addiction, but there is no doubt in my mind that video addiction can
have severely adverse effects on your life. I have been addicted to video
games, but not for a long time since my addiction. I have reduced the amount
the games I play and I get to periods were I take a break from completely. My
addiction was around the time of battlefield two and counterstrike, I used to
play these two games all day every day when I should’ve been studying the
University. It was an obsession. I was okay when I was at university, but when
I came home, the first thing I would do is turn on the computer logon to
battlefield or on the odd occasion counterstrike and just play for as long as I
could, until I needed food and I was still reluctant to stop even than I would
throw together some food that was incredibly unhealthy, but convenient to make
devour it and carry on playing all day until two or 3 o’clock in the morning
and then go to university again.
This may sound familiar to a lot of gamers out there as I’ve had friends in similar situations who have sacrificed grades at university jobs and relationships because of their addiction to computer games. Computer games are great. They offer an escape from reality at a relatively low cost and no damage to the physical body in the same way as other addictions such as drug drink and smoke in its more to do with the time they can sap out of your life and the things you could be doing with that time that you don’t do that can be a detriment to your health. Obviously when people talk about game addictions, they generally think of such as World of Warcraft or rift and I have lost a few friends to both of these games. World of Warcraft is perhaps the biggest culprit to look at. Maybe You couldn’t understand perhaps why people get addicted. But once you start playing its addictive and building your character seems very rewarding you do not want to stop until you’ve got some of the greatest equipment and gear in World of Warcraft and Slade all the Demons in every dungeon and this is no easy feat.
I did live with someone who was completely addicted to World of Warcraft and would play to 16 hours a day non-stop. The game keeps track of how much time you have spent playing in the game over the space of perhaps two years he had spent over 400 days Playtime, which roughly equates to 16 hours a day, every single day with just enough time for a break to go to the toilet and perhaps cook one meal. I don’t want to go into the health complications that arose from playing so much and eating such bad selection of foods to accommodate the gameplay, but I would say that his health deteriorated. I would say the best way to quit videogame addiction is to recognise yourself that you’re addicted and then take measures from their to address it. Maybe play some games that are fun free and a little less engrossing i really like travian and you can read a bit more about it here. Every time where I know I have played far too much time I take a step back and delete the game until my urges to play have subsided, then I’ll reinstall either that game are an alternative and play casual for a while and keep an eye on how much time I spend playing.
